DJSI

Overview

The S&P Dow Jones Indices, a global financial information provider based in the United States, and RobecoSAM, a leading company in sustainable business assessment, jointly developed a sustainability evaluation methodology in 1999. This methodology assesses the sustainability of 2,500 companies worldwide (top companies by market capitalization). It evaluates not only financial information but also social and environmental performance and values comprehensively to assess the value of companies.

The DJSI evaluates over 2,500 of the world's top companies by market capitalization, selecting local partners in each country to conduct assessments. In Korea, the Korea Productivity Center is designated as the local partner, evaluating domestic companies through the country-specific Dow Jones Sustainability Korea Index, DJSI Korea. Only the top 10% of evaluated companies are selected as DJSI World companies.

S&P Dow Jones Indices

Providing the world's largest scale of financial information, leveraging over 120 years of experience, It delivers financial data such as the S&P 500, Dow Jones Industrial Average to institutional and retail investors. It offers a wide range of tables and information in various formats, facilitating of trends in the global financial markets.

RobecoSAM

Established in 1995, This investment specialist exclusively focuses on sustainable investments. It developed the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices, which comprehensively evaluate companies not only based on their economic value but also on their environmental and social aspects. Currently, it provides index information for Europe, North America, Asia-Pacific, Australia, and Korea.

Detailed evaluation criteria and item weights

Weightings are determined based on the detailed items in the assessment questionnaire and are reflected in the evaluation. Industry-specific criteria are established differently according to the key sustainability management issues within each industry. 

The evaluation criteria for DJSI are updated annually to reflect changes in sustainability issues. In the economic sector, evaluation criteria include corporate governance, risk and crisis management, ethical management, and anti-corruption efforts. 

In the environmental sector, criteria include environmental reporting and others. Additionally, in the social category, criteria include human resource development, human resource retention, labor indicator, corporate citizenship, and social reporting, with separate industry-specific criteria for each category.
